Our Mission
Valkyrie Productions is a Rhode Island-based nonprofit reimagining classical performance for modern audiences. We craft immersive productions combining opera with original stories in historic venues, making classical performance accessible, meaningful, and unforgettable. We champion emerging artists with paid professional opportunities, breathe new life into the classical genre through engaging, site-specific shows, and invite new audiences into the magic, memory, and immediacy of live performance.
Our Values
-
We believe live performance should serve as a fully engaging experience for our audience. From hidden libraries to seaside towers, our performances transform local heritage into living stories, where audiences are not spectators, but part of the story unfolding around them.
-
We offer paid, professional opportunities to passionate young artists, regardless of income, and craft productions that welcome first-time guests and opera lovers alike.
-
Valkyrie is built on the idea that history is memory. By staging our stories in places that have held generations, we invite audiences to rediscover heritage sites with productions crafted to highlight and honour local history and folklore.
Our Founder
Meghan C. Thomson is a Rhode Island-based lyric soprano, playwright, and entrepreneur. She is an alumnus of the Manhattan School of Music and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Performance from the Royal College of Music. In 2024, she wrote and produced Pay No Heed, an original ninety-minute theatrical work inspired by legends from coastal Rhode Island, which premiered to sold-out audiences in Newport. She founded Valkyrie Productions shortly after with the vision of creating immersive, professional performances that connect classical artistry with contemporary audiences.
While leading Valkyrie’s debut season, Meghan is concurrently pursuing her Master’s at Carnegie Mellon University. When not at the piano, writing stories, managing inbox chaos, you’ll find her listening to bluegrass, cooking Italian food, and exploring the coastline with her family.
